SEARCH ENGINES“How do they work?” All search engines have 3 major parts: 1. A Spider (crawler) visits a web page, reads it, and then follows links to other pages within the site. Whatever spider finds is being taken to the second part: “Index” 2. An Index is like a huge library containing a copy of every web page that the spider finds. If a web page changes, then the library is updated with new information. 3. Search engine software is the third element of a search engine. It is a program that goes through all the pages recorded in the index and finds matches to a search and ranks them in order of what it believes is most relevant.
